LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Southern Miss graduate Lauren Holifield has been named to the 2017 Division I All-Region Third Team as announced by The National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions with first, second and third team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2017 NFCA Division I All-American squads.
The Columbus, Miss. native ranked first on the team with a .333 overall batting average and hit a team best .354 in C-USA games. She also led the team with nine home runs and was eighth in C-USA; ranked first on the squad in hits (54), runs (31), RBI (34) and total bases (86) while collecting 13 multi-hit games and ten multi-RBI games. She was second in C-USA in hits (28), second in RBI (19), second in plate appearances (91) and third in total bases (44). On defense she ranked first in C-USA in assists (126).
This is the first Golden Eagle since 2004 (Jessica Huerta) to receive this accolade.
