Southern Miss Heads to Tuscaloosa To Take On No. 12 Alabama

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss softball team hits the road Wednesday night for a game against nationally-ranked Alabama. No. 12 Crimson Tide hosts the Golden Eagles at Rhoads Stadium for the 6 pm contest.
The game will be on SEC Network+, Eli Gold is on play-by-play and Danae Hays is the color analyst. Live stats, in-game tweets (@SouthernMissSB), and radio coverage from 1400 AM The Score will be also be available.
Southern Miss enters the week with a 24-22 overall record, while Alabama is 36-9.
The Golden Eagles went 4-1 last week with mid-week victories over Jackson State and Southern University. Over the weekend the squad took two wins over UTSA to claim the C-USA series and move into fourth place in the West Division.
Samantha Reynolds is currently leading the team with a .338 batting average going 27-for-80 on the season. Reynolds has also drawn 21 walks and is 4-of-5 on stolen bases for a team high on-base percentage of .476.
Seniors Lauren Holifield and Tori Dew are a power hitting duo combining for 85 hits with 15 doubles, a triple and eight home runs. Holifield is leading the team with 29 RBI, 73 total bases and a .510 slugging percentage.
In the circle, Kim Crowson leads the team in starts (18), ERA (2.02), innings pitched (110.2), and strikeouts (55). The junior transfer has seven complete games on the season and has held opponents to a .234 batting average.
Crowson is joined in the circle by Samantha Robles. The redshirt junior (7-7) picked up a duo of victories this past weekend over UTSA, only allowing four earned runs on 14 hits with eight strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings of work.
The Golden Eagles and the Crimson Tide have met 10 times on the softball diamond with Bama posting an 8-2 overall record in those games. The two teams have met just four times in Hattiesburg with the Black and Gold earning a 3-2 victory on Feb. 22, 2006.The last time the two teams met in Tuscaloosa was in 2015 with Alabama taking the contest.
The first meeting came during the 2000 Women's College World Series with Southern Miss notching a 3-0 victory.
Scouting the Opponent
The Crimson Tide posts a .297 team batting average with Demi Turner leading the pack (.387); three other teammates post a .300 or better.
Sydney Littlejohn leads the pitching staff with a 14-3 record and .99 ERA in 24 appearances. The senior has allowed 23 runs on 83 hits in 127 1/3 innings pitched.
The team currently ranks No. 12 in both the USA Today/NFCA and the ESPN.com/USA Softball polls and is fifth in the SEC.
