HATTIESBURG, Miss -- Southern Miss women's golf coach Erika Brennan announced the team's 2017-18 schedule this afternoon.
"This year is going to be our toughest test yet," Brennan said. "We've got several SEC school events on the schedule this year and we will need to be at our best to compete. I'm really excited to watch how our Krewe stacks up."
The women's team will head to the Lone Star State to kick off their season at the Jim West Invitational Sept 11-12. The squad competes in three more tournament, including the Magnolia Collegiate hosted by Mississippi State, before putting the season on hold until February.
The Golden Eagles will begin 2018 play on Feb. 19-20 in Melbourne, Fla. at the Moon Golf Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Louisville. The schedule's three remaining tournaments includes two more SEC member school events, the Suntrust Lady Gator Invitational (Florida) and the Tiger Invitational (LSU), before finishing up in Fort Myers, Fla. with the Conference USA Championship at the Verandah Club.
"Last year we had a Top-50 scoring rating in the country but due to our strength of schedule we finished ranked 76th," Brennan said. "This year, our strength of schedule is going to help up instead of hurt us, but we'll need to play consistent golf to maximize its positive effect. We're chomping at the bit to get started."
All in all, the team will travel to six states to compete in nine total tournaments. Coach Brennan's team is made up of five returning players and freshman newcomers Valeria Pichardo, Ping Huang, Emily Cox and Julie Baker.
