Southern Miss Men’s Golf Returns to Action in Mobile
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men’s golf team begins its spring season of competition tomorrow in the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollege. The 54 holes of play begin with 36 holes on Monday and finish with 18 on Tuesday from the par 72 7,212 yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Course in Mobile, Ala.
“We are very excited to get the spring season kicked off,” said Head Coach Jerry Weeks. “We have been working very hard these last few weeks and we are looking forward to starting off the season.”
Though every Golden Eagle is competing in the tournament, Walker Kesterson, Matt Codd, Matt Lorenz, Willie Hammond and Nathan Corchis make up the starting five. The rest of the team will compete as individuals. This is the first time this season that Hammond has been among the counting scores for the team. Kesterson has been the top performer for Southern Miss this season as he was the team’s top finisher in three of the fall’s five tournaments.
The field consists of South Alabama, Florida State, Kennesaw State, Notre Dame, Illinois State, Jacksonville State, LA Tech, WKU, Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Louisiana, Oral Roberts, Nicholls, Richmond and Samford.
