Kesterson Climbs Leaderboard to End as Team's Top Finisher

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss sophomore Walker Kesterson climbed 18 spots up the leaderboard in the final round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic to finish tied for 29th after shooting a one-under 71 and carding a four-over 220 total.

Kesterson’s best round of the tournament included four birdies. This is his fourth round of par or better on the season and the eighth of his career. The Hartsburg, Mo. native was the highest finisher in his group by seven strokes.

Freshman Brian Richards finished with a six-over 222 after shooting a six-over 78 in the last round. Richards holed two birdies on the day to finish tied for 38th.

Sophomore Matt Lorenz stayed tied for 57th, gathering a four-over 76, with a 54-hole total of 11-over 227.

Junior Derick Kelting finished 74th with a 15-over 231 and senior Matt Codd finished 81st after collecting a seven-over 79, 22-over 238 total.

The team finished 14th after accumulating a 36-over 900 for the tournament.

The Golden Eagles will return to action at the Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla. for the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational Oct. 23-24.
