WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Southern Miss redshirt-junior Parker Shaunfield burst upon the scene in 2016, and this summer he has been named to the Lou Groza Award watchlist, presented annually to the nation's best collegiate kicker.
The Aledo, Texas, native was slated to become the starter in 2016 for the first time in his career, and made an outstanding first impression with three field goals of 31, 49 and 25 yards that proved to be the difference in Southern Miss' dramatic 44-35 win at Kentucky.
The eventual Lou Groza Award semifinalist made each of his first 12 field goal attempts and was perfect on his 40 PATs. His run of 12 consecutive field goals were the most by a Golden Eagle since 2010 Groza finalist Danny Hrapmann.
