HATTIESBURG, Miss. – As the Southern Miss baseball team heads into the second half of its Conference USA season, the Golden Eagles look to continue to hold its lead in the league standings, but face a tough task in Old Dominion who heads to town for a three-game weekend series at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.

Game times are 6 p.m., Friday, at 4 p.m., Saturday, as part of the Eagle Fest weekend festivities, and at 10:30 a.m., Sunday.

A two-game spread separates Southern Miss (29-10 overall, 12-3 C-USA) from ODU (26-11, 10-5), which sits in third place in the standings with Florida Atlantic holding second place with an 11-4 league mark.

This will be the third-ever meeting between the two clubs this weekend, but the first time that the two teams have played in a regular-season series since the Monarchs joined C-USA for the 2014 campaign. The two teams have met in the C-USA Tournament in each of the last two seasons and the Golden Eagles have won both of those affairs.

Southern Miss outlasted the Monarchs 2-0 in the 2015 event in 12 innings, which was the second-longest ever C-USA Tournament game in terms of innings. Last season, Southern Miss defeated ODU in seven innings, 17-5, in the opening game of the event. Each of those meetings took place at Pete Taylor Park.

Senior Dylan Burdeaux continues to lead the Golden Eagle offense over the past few weeks as he has recorded a team-best 16-game hitting streak, hitting .449 over that stretch with 14 multi-hit games within the streak.

Burdeaux also recently jumped into the top 10 in a few school career charts, holding an eighth place tie for career at bats (840), as well as jumping into 10th place for both hits (259) and singles (182).

The West Monroe, La., native now ranks as one of eight different Golden Eagles that currently hold a batting average over .300.

Jake Viaene and Matthew Guidry lead the way at .412 and .378, respectively, in limited at bats, followed by Burdeaux at .344, Matt Wallner at .343, Mason Irby at .342, Taylor Braley at .324 and Hunter Slater at .310.

Wallner, who leads the team in home runs with 12, ranks just one shy of tying the Golden Eagle freshman record which is held by Darren Welch (1999).

Braley, who has reached base safely at least once in all 38 games that he has played this season, will also earn his first start on the mound this weekend, getting the nod for the Golden Eagles on Sunday

Tickets for the series can be purchased by going online at, by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or by visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office weekdays from 8 a.m., until 5 p.m. The Pete Taylor Park box office opens two hours prior to first pitch on game days.
